The Modern Day Christian Classic "Case for Christ" Returns for Pre-Teens

Lee Storbels along with the help of Jesse Florea, in the recently release Case for Christ For Kids (90 day devotional), bring a modern day classic to pre-teens. While the title contains "...for kids", this is instead is a great book for pre-teens through the middle school/Jr. high years.

I have used the student version of Case for Christ, and have found it very helpful in teaching and also in giving out to my older more mature 8th graders. This book however is what has been needed for late elementary years into early 6th and 7th grades. It is also is great for young teens who have just excepted Christ and are just beginning their faith journey.

Each of the 90 easy to read devotionals are one page front and back. They are quick, interesting reads written in a form that will draw students in by starting off with an informational story about our world. From how hot dogs are made to baseball to silly warning labels each devotionals starts off with some real from their world. The devotionals then lead to the "examine the case" section where the young reader is challenged to examine the real Christ. The devotionals are connected together by the book's systematic flow of information creating a smart "case for Christ", that makes sense while slowly guides young minds from just facts to real faith.

This would be a great book to pick up for your MS/JH ministry, but also might be a great book to pick up for Children's ministry to be given out to students the year before they enter your youth program. Once again, I reiterate even though the book might appear to be written "...for kids", it is an excellent book for students that might see themselves moving beyond that label. However you choose to use it, I would suggest pick up a couple copies to have around to give out students and parents in your ministry setting.

Case for Christ for Kids 90-Day Devotional

Lee Strobel was the teaching pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois, from 1987 to 2000, before shifting his focus to writing and producing his TV show. Today, Lee speaks at churches and has been a board member of the Willow Creek Association. Strobel was recently awarded an honorary doctoral degree by Southern Evangelical Seminary in recognition of his work with Christian apologetics.

Probably his most famous book, The Case for Christ of Lee's journey to becoming a Christian. The book summarizes Strobel's interviews with 13 evangelical Christian scholars all defending their view of the historical reliability of the New Testament.

This new Edition, The Case for Christ for Kids (a 90 day devotional) is directed at kids ages 9-12 and explores the life of Jesus and what it means to be a Christian. This book is great for kids who want to learn more about Christianity so they can share it with their friends.

This three month devotional is easy to read and is packed with stories, history and applicable stories that tie back to the life of Christ.

Each days reading is only a page, it typically starts with a story or something fun, then moves into questions and closes with a scripture. The book even has a extensive index in the back for locating favored readings.

This would make a great Youth Group resource or a good gift for a young teen in your life.

A great book about faith for kids!

Lee Strobel has long been a voice in Christian Apologetics, most known for bestselling book The Case for Christ. With significant amounts of research this book has been a staple in Christian apologetics.

Not only has Strobel written versions for children, his latest in the series is a fantastic devotional kids, Case for Christ for Kids: 90 Day Devotional.

Each devotional has a “case” to examine, which is personal story or a fun story to get the reader’s attention. Strobel then invites the reader to “examine the case,” getting the reader to dive deeper into the story/example and what that means. It’s the perfect way to keep readers focused! Finally each devotion ends with the final word, a verse to emphasize the teaching just read. They aren’t too long or overwhelming, but not surface level either.

With creative and fun writing, Strobel has created a devotional for kids that is not only enjoyable and entertaining to read, but provides truth for kids to work through and make their own. If you looking for the perfect stocking stuffer, look no further!

Another great one!

Thank you Brenda for another fabulous book! My daughter loves it when we read your stories at bedtime. And because I have them on my Kindle for iPad/iPhone we can take you with us everywhere! There have been many times she has sat and 'read' your books over and over making up her own stories to your fabulous pictures and reciting the ones she know by heart. I look forward to sharing 'Time for Bed, Bunny!' with her tonight.

My daughter LOVES this book! I love that the story goes through a normal bedtime routine in a way she can relate to. She is only 2 and a half, but she retells the story. All day long she says phrases from the book. "Get down, Bunny!" "Um, no!" The book makes her giggle and she is always asking for more!

I have enjoyed this book, and others by this Author. The pictures in this book are fabulous, and the story so easy to read. i love the personal touches the author has put into this, it makes the situation a lot more believable. Its a great little bedtime book to share with preschoolers and to teach them about night time/ bedtime routine. Its a lovely little book. Thanks.

Come on, Bunny! Get going!

We were so excited to get "the latest" book by Brenda Ponnay. (We own paperback versions of the ABC, Numbers, and Colors books.) Just like her other books, this book has many illustrations that made us laugh. The story of Bunny having a hard time to get ready in the morning is very familiar to us. Bunny in a costume? Making a funny face? Hilarious.

I have a beginning reader and a three and a half year old. The two of them working together could read the whole book by themselves. (One handled the repetitive parts & the parts you could guess from the pictures, while the other one sounded out the rest of the words.) The book is so cute!

Fun getting-ready-to-go book with toddler and parent humor

This is a short, sweet book with pictures illustrating Bunny's morning routine, from waking up to being dropped off at school. I read this book on my phone's Kindle app with my 15-month-old daughter. She laughed at Bunny's idea of school clothes (a frog outfit) and when Bunny disappeared from one page called along with the narrator, "Ba-ee? Ba-ee!" I appreciated how, on the page that shows Bunny burrowing under the blankets because he doesn't want to get up, the alarm clock has been knocked off the nightstand and onto the floor. I know exactly how that feels!

Each page has one short sentence, making this perfect for toddlers with short attention spans OR for beginning readers.

A great story for beginning readers

A wonderful story depicting the morning routine that drives us all a little crazy.

Following Bunny along on his/her morning routine is quite hilarious. (Bunny must be in cohorts with my girls!) I can imagine what Bunny's day at school and bedtime routine would entail and came up with many silly situations while reading it. You could even replace Bunny with your own childs name (while reading) to personalize the story for more fun.

The simple sentences and repetition make this a great book for beginning readers.

Participa activamente en el programa En Ruta de la estación Nueva Vida 97.7 FM con su sección Hombre a Hombre. Lleva trece años de casado con su esposa y compañera de aventuras, Jessica, con quien tiene tres hijos: Joshua Misael, Caleb Daniel y Jeriel David. Residen en Cayey, Puerto Rico.

Yo no soy un hombre cristiano. Soy un hombre de fe, creo que hay un Dios, creador de una fuerza que todo lo anima, que me dio la oportunidad de vivir y experimentar esta jornada que llamo vida. Fui criado bajo las doctrinas catolicas y mi padre era pentecostal, pero tuve influencia minima de el. Durante los ultimos anos he devorado sobre 150 libros en varios topicos, muchos de ellos en el tema espiritual. Cuando mi hermana me regalo este libro hace casi un ano, nunca pense que lo leeria puesto que no soy seguidor de Jesus, ni de la biblia, pese a que la respeto. Este pasado verano tuve la inquietud de leer este libro. No estaba claro de porque, sobretodo pq tengo una estiba de libros que he comprado que aun no he leido y que me interesan mas que este, mas sin embargo decidi comenzar a leer este libro y luego de 5 dias lo termine. Me hizo llorar y me hizo ampliar mi perspectiva y estar mas conciente de quien soy. Me dio una sesacion de sanacion que ha perdurado hasta hoy y re-abrio una puerta que habia cerrado porque perdi la fe en la iglesia. Pero Dios no es la Iglesia. Dios es Dios, la Iglesia es la Iglesia y Dios solo esta en la Iglesia que vive las ensenanzas de Dios autenticamente. Este libro es un libro maravilloso que recomiendo a todo hombre. Es una oportunidad de sanar y poner en perspectiva la vida y como la estamos viviendo y que cosas de nuestro pasado hemos dejado que hieran y imposibiliten nuestro presente. Es una invitacion a reconsiderar tu relacion con la figura femenina en tu vida. Esta parte solamente puede transformar la vida de muchos hombres pq nacimos en fuimos criados con creencias sobre las mujeres que limitan nuestro potencial de desarrollar relaciones gratificantes y hermosas con el regalo mas grande que Dios le hizo al hombre. Es una oportunidad honesta de rebuscarme con humildad y ver que el hombre que puedo ser hoy, es 1000 veces mas poderoso, autentico, amoroso, integro y sabio que el hombre que fui en el pasado. Finalmente, de un hombre que no es cristiano, y lo lei con mi conviccion espiritual, no como cristiano, puedo decir que el auto destila sus ideas en formas que bien pudieran transformar tu vida. Tremendo libro!

Funny and fill-in-the-blanks

Subtle Bodies is a radical and deliberate departure for Rush, and a welcome one for this reader. For one, it is very cinematic; it is easy to see SB as a screenplay, as a movie. Secondly, Rush does not flesh out the main characters as he did for us in his previous two novels. He leaves it to us to reckon with his characters on our own terms, leaves it to us to fill-in-the-blanks both in the characters' lives and in our relationship with them, as we ask ourselves how the characters (or ourselves) ended up the way they did. Third, it is a broad but subtle comedy. I laughed out loud many times. In short, it is a challenging book and what we gain from it depends a great deal on what we bring to it and how deeply we work to understand what Rush is saying and what he is leaving to us to conclude about how we relate to friendship, death, marriage, war, protest and change. And we also are left to wonder how much of what we think we understand of the characters is understood by the characters themselves. I'm on my third reading and still have no answers and likely never will but the effort is rewarding.

Disappointing

I am a huge Norman Rush fan. 'Mortals' is, in my humble opinion, one of the most incredible and important books published in the last 50 years. So it truly pains me to write a bad review for 'Subtle Bodies.' But it is simply not a good novel. It is a story of a group of 5 college friends from NYU in the 1970s and what happens to them when one of them dies and they gather for his memorial. The big problem is that none of the characters is in any way compelling or interesting, and I felt absolutely zero investment in caring about what happened to any of them. The beautiful writing that Rush brought to 'Mortals' and 'Mating' is still here in bits, he writes great dialogue, the way his characters speak to one another has always been one of his strengths. But it's not enough to salvage this story. If you are a Norman Rush fan, well, he only writes a book every 10-15 years, and it's short, so make your own judgement. But color me devastatingly disappointed in 'Subtle Bodies.'

four college friends are summoned a couple of decades after their school years to participate in a memoriam to the leader of their group of self-proclaimed wits on the lower east side of new york in the seventies. douglas died in a freak accident on his property in the catskills. central to the property is the castle where douglas lived with his wife and son, hume, a teenaged wild child who prefers living in the woods instead of the castle or the cabin his father had built for him.

douglas was a bit of a goethe, his fortune was made in identifying questionable documents, but he also worked on film scripts and inventions, rumor had it one of his inventions was of interest to the world intelligence community. it's left up to the reader to decide if douglas' death was more than accidental, and if espionage figures into the story. other than a subtle body of coincidences that read like clues, the plot does not divulge any mystery.

instead, the story focuses primarily on the couple ned and nina. ned is employed at a non-profit, armed with petition for his friends to sign to protest the entry of the usa military into iraq. the year is 2002, the protest, planned for february 15, 2003, turned out be the largest anti-war protest in history. knowing the outcome, norman rush revisiting the commitment and hope of activists to recruit and get out the word on a massive scale, believing their voices will make a difference, reveals the cynical worm inside the apple of optimism. but hope, alive in another form, beats on in this story as nina follows ned to the castle, to keep on their schedule to conceive a baby.

the other friends have also done well. elliot is a stockbroker, joris is a lawyer who gives free advice to the prostitutes at the bordello in manhattan where he has a room for an office, and gruen, who gained a lot of weight since their college days, heads an agency that provides public service announcements for television. and there's iva, a renown beauty, douglas' widow, who coordinates the shaping of the memoriam with the early presence of her guests, the attendant media crowd, and house servants.

these aren't the most exciting or inquisitive persons, but norman rush catches the tone of each character with an exactitude true to his controlled setting. and in the end everything comes off smoothly, with all the pieces clicking neatly into place.

From these ideas, the vegetarian philosophy was codified, and The Health Reformer’s Cook Book embraced trends that still have significance today.  As stated in the book, it’s “object is to restore the sick to health by means of . . . pure air, pure water, sun-light, sleep, proper clothing, judicious exercise, healthful food, pleasant social influences, &c., excluding all poisonous drugs.” The Health Reformer’s Cook Book is based on the methods and beliefs that Jackson and her husband actually employed at a health facility founded by her husband. Following the health reform ideals of the time, Jackson included recipes to limit excessive eating and following a vegetarian diet focused on simple meals of fruits, vegetables, and grains—all trends that still resonant with health experts today. This edition of The Health Reformer’s Cook Book was reproduced by permission from the volume in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher, the Society is a research library documenting the life of Americans from the colonial era through 1876. The Society collects, preserves, and makes available as complete a record as possible of the printed materials from the early American experience. The cookbook collection includes approximately 1,100 volumes.
