Die hier vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Erziehungsentwürfe der beiden platonischen Schriften zur Staatstheorie bezüglich der körperlichen und gymnastischen Aktivitäten und deren Auswirkungen und Einordnungen in den von PLATON propagierten Idealstaat.
Es sind keine sportwissenschaftlichen Theorien, die erforscht werden sollen, sondern es handelt sich vielmehr um eine Einordnung der platonischen Leibeserziehung in die antike Tradition der Athleten und Sportler. Die Untersuchung teilt sich in zwei große Gliederungspunkte, die sich erst der gymnastischen Erziehung innerhalb der Politeia widmen, bevor der zweite große Gliederungspunkt den Themenschwerpunkt auf PLATONS Spätwerk, »Die Gesetze«, legt.
