About the Author
Marie Monville, a lifetime resident of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, area, often sat alongside her father in his milk truck as he served his Amish and non-Amish neighbors. She married her high school sweetheart, then gave birth to three children. The first 28 years of her life were quiet, predictable, and full of regular day-to-day country living. That all changed on October 2, 2006, the day her husband barricaded the Amish schoolhouse at Nickel Mines. Today, Marie is remarried to Dan Monville, and she speaks nationwide as she and Dan raise their five children in the Lancaster, PA, area.

If every problem was handled this way....

I live about 10 minutes from where this happened. I remember I had actually just gotten home from my Moms-In-Touch meeting (a different one than Marie's) and I heard siren after siren. I couldn't imagine what had happened that would need so many emergency vehicles. After I found out about the shooting my first thought was of the Amish children and their families and my second thought was of Marie and her family.

So many times I wished I knew Marie but I didn't so I just prayed fiercely for her and her family. I also prayed for Charlie's family. For his mother, father and his siblings. Of course I also prayed for the Amish families and their children.

What a beautiful story of obedience and forgiveness. Imagine what this world would be like if every tragedy and problem were handled as this one was.

It is a perfect example of how to and how not to handle our problems.

Read the book. It is inspirational and will change how you live your life!

This book has touched my heart. Marie Monville fills the pages with artful illustrations that the Illustrator of life wrote into her life. So blessed to have read this story & thankful that she chose not only to share it but to see his work in her life even in great tragedy.

Jh. als Initiatorin für soziale Bewegungen: Konstruktionen, Machtdiskurse und gesellschaftliche Identifikationen aus historischer Perspektive, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der erste Artikel, in dem über die geheimnisvolle Krankheit „Morbus Kaposi“ in Deutschland berichtet wird, erscheint im „Spiegel“ mit der Ausgabe vom 31.05.1982. 1872 waren k.u.k. dem Hautarzt Moritz Kohn Kaposi in Rumänien erstmals Patienten mit dieser merkwürdigen Krankheit aufgefallen.Ältere Juden zumeist, an deren Haut sich blau-rote, krebsige Knoten bildeten, die an Zahl im Laufe von Jahren stetig zunahmen.So bekam diese geheimnisvolle Krankheit ihren Namen.
In dieser Aussage wird für mich klar, dass es zu jeder Zeit eine bestimmte geltende Wahrheit gibt.Denn wie uns nun 24 Jahre später bekannt ist, ist diese geheimnisvolle Krankheit weder eine Krebserkrankung noch ist sie die „Lustseuche“ der Homosexuellen. Nein, sie betrifft uns alle, sofern sie denn existiert. Damit meine ich, dass die Existenz von HIV noch nicht eindeutig nachgewiesen wurde. Um einen Virus als solchen zu bezeichnen, muss er mit einem ganz bestimmten Verfahren isoliert werden, was bis heute nicht geschehen ist. In dieser vorliegenden Arbeit habe ich mich nun mit der Berichterstattung des Themas „Aids“ in einem Zeitraum von 1983 – 2005 in der Zeitung „Die Zeit“ näher beschäftigt und bin zu spannenden Resultaten gekommen.Zugegebenermaßen war die Vorstellung, mich durch 25 Jahre „Zeitgeschichte“ anhand von einmal wöchentlichen Zeitungserscheinungen durchzuarbeiten, nicht gerade erbaulich.Bei meiner weiteren Recherche nach einem geeigneten und hoffentlich vorhandenen Archiv stieß ich auf Gruner & Jahr.Ich fragte einen Arbeitskollegen von mir, der zu dieser Zeit gerade bei Gruner&Jahr ein Praktikum absolvierte, ob er nicht intern jemand ausfindig zu machen sei, mit dem ich direkten Kontakt aufnehmen kann. Ich konnte daraufhin Kontakt mit einem Mitarbeiter des Archivs aufnehmen, der so freundlich war, mir über 1800 Artikel zum Thema „Aids“ aus den Jahren 1983 – 2005 auszudrucken.Deswegen möchte ich mich nun den Zeitperioden nähern und versuchen eine Entwicklung, im Sinne des Diskurses „Aids“ aufzuzeigen. Im ersten Kapitel widme ich mich kurz der Chronik der Zeitung „Die Zeit“, danach stelle ich die Jahre 1983 – 1989 vor, im zweiten Kapitel fasse ich den Zeitraum 1990 – 1999 zusammen, und im dritten Kapitel werde ich die Jahre 2000 – 2005 näher betrachten. Nach jedem Zeitabschnitt habe ich versucht, eine möglichst genaue Zusammenfassung der einzelnen Perioden darzustellen. Am Ende meiner Arbeit werde ich mich reflektierend zu der Art und Weise der Berichterstattung in der „Zeit“ äußern.

Stories that will stick with you forever

For those who don't know, this is a new edition of one of Osho's first international bestsellers, "Roots and Wings." These are the kinds of stories that stay in your head and pop into mind in all sorts of everyday encounters. Talking to someone who is so full of their own ideas, you know it's pointless to say anything? The philosopher who goes to the Zen master to seek the meaning of life comes to mind. And the great "aha moment" captured so beautifully by the story of the monk who answers a koan by kicking over a jug of water. Those who are familiar with Osho's vision of "Zorba the Buddha" will recognize the foundations of it in this book, as well. This is a "classic" in the Osho canon for sure, one of those you'll go back to again and again and find something new each time.

About the Author
A decade ago, John Moretti left his job as a small-town reporter in Vermont in search of fame and fortune in Italy. For four years he worked in Milan as an editor at a national English-language newspaper, a joint venture between Corriere della Sera and the International Herald Tribune.

Later, as a correspondent in Southern Europe, John covered everything from Lance Armstrong’s string of historic Tour de France victories for the New York Sun to the plight of African prostitutes in Turin for the London-based Independent. His brief television career included an interview with Giorgio Armani for A&E’s Biography and a documentary on Italian soccer for Australian television.

Over the years, John has become a self-described expert on Italian society. He has accumulated a multitude of priceless experiences in Italy to date: racing across the Bay of Naples at about 30 knots in Giovanni Soldini's trimaran, sledding with huskies by the Slovenian border, skiing the summit of Mount Etna hours before it erupted, celebrating Easter with friends in the Maremma... and enjoying long lunches alfresco.

Beyond a traveler's pocket companion...

Although travel guides are fraught with the best intentions of being both informative and easily digestible, there are actually a limited number that actually succeed in that undertaking. Writer John Moretti takes factual information and presents it in an interesting and engaging fashion, with just the right amount of both humor and humility to make it more than a guide book and thoroughly enjoyable. Information that is not only based on well researched factual and historical details, but personal anecdotes that the author has personally experienced during his many years of living in Italy. All things from how to enjoy Italy's 20 regions according to the seasons, festivals and cultural activities to very real practical application of how to navigate the every day life of living in Italy. Whether one wishes to make a short trip or an extended one, John walks you through possible itineraries that save you time, money, all the while avoiding the ever present tourist trappings that each region experiences during specific periods throughout the year. He offers up a plethora of intriguing things to see and do that are not splashed on typical travel tourist travel sites, taking you into the heart of each region and its colorful inhabitants. If your goal is to set up residence, then this is a must-have guide. Moretti's information is right on target; having run the gauntlet of Italian beaurocracy personally on my way to receiving dual citizenship and my Italian passport, the author's insightful advice and personal experience could certainly help take the stress out of potentially frustrating situations for those seeking to live in this beautiful but multi-layered country. My copy already has so many dog-eared pages that lending it to interested friends is virtually out of the question. Great for a gift to those with upcoming travel or transferring plans.

A Good Place to Start

My wife and I have decided to spend at least 1 year living in Italy after we retire. This is the first book I have purchased that focuses on living in Italy. I found it easy to read, and enjoyed the layout of the material. Many things are covered regarding moving, daily life, fitting in, regional attitudes, etc. While no single subject dominates the book, it covers enough areas to help you see what you need to be thinking about and researching prior to moving. Perhaps the best parts are the descriptions, housing prices, and other pluses and minuses of many of the different regions of Italy. I was able to narrow my list of areas I might want to live, and that alone made the book worth purchasing.

Practical, well-written & inspirational!

I have traveled to Italy many times for work and pleasure. (OK, mainly pleasure.) And I have been considering a longer trip to get a much more immersive experience. John's book is really an exceptional combination of inspirational travel writing and highly informative practical advice ... all mated with an insightful understanding of the joys & occasional frustrations of Italian culture! I have read many travel and cultural books about Italy, but this one is, by far and away, my favorite. You'll read it, enjoy it, and refer to it many times, I'm sure. If you love Italy and want to know how to make living there work for you, you will not be disappointed!
