In diesem Zusammenhang sollen sie Gesetzmäßigkeiten erforschen, Experimente planen, durchführen und auswerten und Wachstum, Entwicklung und Fortpflanzung entdecken.
In der „Perspektive Zeit" könnte man das Erkennen und Vergleichen der menschlichen Lebensbedingungen bezüglich der wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen wie beispielsweise die Ernte, maschinelle Hilfe, Kartoffelprodukte, ... angliedern. Das Jahr 2008 ist im Oktober 2007 von der UNO zum internationalen Jahr der Kartoffel ausgerufen worden, um somit auf die Bedeutung des wichtigen Grundnahrungsmittels aufmerksam zu machen. Dies ist ein guter Anlass, den Kindern die Wichtigkeit der Kartoffel näher zu bringen, die ihre direkte Lebenswirklichkeit betrifft.
In dieser Unterrichtseinheit wird den Schülern die Geschichte, das Aussehen, der Anbau, die Ernte näher gebracht und sie führen zahlreiche Experimente durch. Auf diese Weise lernen sie die Vielfältigkeit der Kartoffel kennen, die auch zum Kartoffeldruck, zur Kleisterherstellung, ... verwendet werden kann. Außerdem werden sie während der Einheit für eine gesunde Ernährung, von der sie ihr Leben lang zehren, sensibilisiert. Die Einstellung der Schüler gegenüber der eigenen Ernährung soll positiv beeinflusst werden. Ihnen soll bewusst werden, dass die Ernährung wichtig für das Wohlbefinden und für die Gesundheit ist.
Die Kinder sollen sich mit diesen Themen auseinandersetzen, zum Nachdenken angeregt werden, ihre Vorerfahrungen einbringen und ihr Wissen erweitern.
