About the Author
George S. Day is the Geoffrey T. Boisi Professor and co-director of the Mack Center for Technological Innovation at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Previously he was chairman of the board for the American Marketing Association, and has served as a consultant to GE, IBM, Medtronic, Merck, W.L. Gore & Associates, and other corporations. His books include Strategy from the Outside In and Peripheral Vision, among others. Day lives in Villanova, Pennsylvania.

A must read for every Innovation Leader

As an Innovation practitioner I found this book to be filled with sage advice, clear guidance and thoughtful insight. George Day has a simple, elegant writing style, making this book a very easy yet thought provoking read. Within 4 chapters we are taken on an innovation growth journey. At each stage, George seems to ask the right questions as well as offering up clear options and answers.

As a company leader who does not want to grow? George recognizes that and starts with Strategy. But the subsequent chapters take us through a framework and process to think about organic growth. As a strong believer in the 'outside-in' approach, the book was music to my ears. I liked the 14 Growth pathways, just as I like the Doblin Innovation model. No model is perfect but this one looks to be useful. One that I will use at the next opportunity. I particularly valued the 3C's model. The recognition that Innovation Prowess is shaped by ones innovation ability. It reminds us to consider Culture, Capabilities and organizational Configuration.

In summary this is a well written short book that I can see myself using as reference material for many years to come.

A Great Business Book for Plane, Train or Office

George Day's 17th book is a great read for anyone involved in innovation, strategy, or business development where growth is critical. Most of us in the business community have read and benefited from his previous books and Innovation Prowess delivers "new value" - I read this as a Kindle e-book and found it's just the right size to get a quick dose of insight while traveling.

Professor Day spells out clearly and concisely how managers need to balance culture, capabilities and configuration (organization) to achieve growth thru innovation, and gives specific examples of companies that are innovation leaders as well as some who missed the boat on new technologies and markets.

I highly recommend this to anyone in business who wants to understand and leverage the relationship between innovation and growth. Innovation Prowess offers some ideas that come from Wharton research on emerging technologies, managing risk, and industry transformation - if you're really busy and only have a chance to read a few management books, Innovation Prowess should be on your list.

This is an enormously insightful book which is not just relevant for developing perspectives on innovation but even more relevant as a strategic tool for developing total business strategy .I found the approach of using duality of the business model and customer value proposition to analyse pathways for devolving many paths to innovation incredibly useful and very clear and practical. This book is serious value for money for anyone who wants to understand the process of creating and capturing value through expanding customer value proposition. George Day has fashioned a highly understandable strategic playbook for this process.Highly recommended
