Nothing that you can't find in free Youtube videos

Since there are very few books out there dedicated to still chromakey photography technique, I was very excited when I saw this title and read the reviews on Amazon. I am new to "green screen" technology and truly looked forward to integration applications that would eliminate color spill and outlining of models that I find in much of my beginning work. Unfortunately, the author seemed more interested in showing what he called PG-13 photographs of seductively posed or bare breasted women superimposed on interesting, but obvious digital backgrounds. Much to my dismay, many of the professional's images contained the same spill and outlining that I had hoped to learn how to avoid in my own work. I found the quality of the text to be mediocre at best. Techniques were implied through graphical interpretation rather than by editorial instruction in most cases. I would not say to avoid the book because it does introduce one to the basic concept of "green screen" technology. However, I would not expect for anyone to render first rate images based on the information contained within these pages. I will continue to search Youtube for free instructional videos until someone writes a real book on this subject for still photography.

Barebones instruction for green screen photography if you have PhotoKey Pro Software

I have been considering whether to buy this book for some time and finally decided to order the book. While the book contains some good information on the use of green and blue screen backgrounds, I would not have purchased it if I were able to fully browse through it before purchase (more than the few pages shown by Amazon).
I've been photographing people (weddings, portraits, events, etc.) for over 30 years. I understand light and know how to use a variety of light sources, from natural to artificial. I've taught portrait, wedding, and glamor photography courses. I also use several photo editing software programs capable of handling chromokey, including PhotoKey Pro (ver 4). I know a good resource book when I read it. As resources go, this one is marginal at best.
It seems that the author, who clearly appeared to know his subject, wrote the book with the true beginner in mind. The book was full of photos of attractive women in various stages of undress and included minimal supporting text describing points the author wanted to make. Unfortunately, it was missing a great deal of information I sought and believed relevant in a book such as this.
For example, I wanted to know how to remove the black lines which may occur around models when pasted over backgrounds so as to which make it look like the model was actually photographed on location. Yet, the book contained little information on how to eliminate the black separation lines. These same black lines also appeared in many of the author's photos and made it appear that the models were pasted over the background (see for example, the images on pages 9, 50, 119, 144, 163, etc.). I for one would like to learn how photographers other than Scot Kelby soften and blend the separation lines between the model and the background.
As this is a book on lighting and glamor photography, I would have liked to have seen at least a chapter on posing the model. While many of the images looked great, there were far too many images in which the model appeared awkwardly posed (see for example, the images on pages 16, 21, 39, 60, etc.). Yet other photos depicted unflattering aspects of the models because of the pose, such as protruding bones or fat rolls (see for example, the images on pages 26, 76, 77, 84, 147, etc.). Even some of the model's expressions appeared awkward.
The book also needs more instruction and details on lighting. Chapter 5, which covers foreground lighting, has less than three pages of vague text to describe assorted lighting (four pages including images). The author barely covered Rembrandt lighting, butterfly lighting, and loop lighting. Foreground lighting is very important, yet in Chapter 6, Key Light Source and Positioning, he covers key lighting in three pages (four including the images). If only these topics were so simple. The author should have covered lighting in much greater detail and included such topics as adding and subtracting light using reflectors, contrast ratios (especially in matching contrast ratio of the lighting on the model to the intended background), using ring light, using color filters over the lights (more than one line), using the lights to either soften or sharpen the models features, and more.
While the book covers keying green screen and blue screen, I would have liked to have read how to key other colors, such as white and black, in software such as Photoshop. I would have also liked to have more detail on the various types of green and blue screens and how to select the best screen for the money (for example, some reflective green screens cause problems with an uneven key color, others are difficult to remove the wrinkles, etc.).
Remarkably, the author covered PhotoKey version 3 in Chapter 11 in 53 pages. I am not sure why the author chose to give such coverage (25% of the book) to a now obsolete software version in the middle of a book which does not even include the name of the software in the title! It should have been placed in an appendix in the back of the book or on the enclosed DVD.
I realize that I have been critical of the author, but I sincerely believe he could have structured and written this book much better so it could be used as a reference book.

Pretty great on helping u get the pics lighting just right then the same when u put the background behind it. Always have problems with my green screen. Not so much the lighting but have green tint to hair r skin..
